An honest entry point to sim racing
The G29 is the PlayStation and PC version of Logitech's Driving Force wheel. Dual motors with helical gearing feed back tyre slip, weight transfer and kerbs through a hand-stitched leather rim, and 900 degrees of rotation means road cars feel natural rather than twitchy. The pedal base includes a clutch, so it's ready for a manual gearbox if you add the Driving Force Shifter later. The wheel clamps to a desk or table and the pedals have a retractable non-slip pad for carpet. It works with Gran Turismo 7, F1, Assetto Corsa and most PC sims that support Logitech force feedback.
Gear-driven versus TrueForce and direct drive
The G29 uses gears, so the force feedback has a slightly notchy feel compared with belt or direct-drive wheels, and it's quieter but less detailed than the G923's TrueForce. It's the PlayStation version: it won't work on Xbox, which needs the G920. The pedals are firm but the brake is spring-based rather than load cell, so judging braking takes practice. You'll need a sturdy desk or a wheel stand, and a wall socket for the power adapter. If you're unsure whether sim racing is for you, it's the sensible first wheel.
