In a PC, the heatsink lets the 990 PRO hold its 7,450MB/s read and 6,900MB/s write through long transfers rather than throttling. The 2TB model also gets a 2GB DRAM cache, 1,400,000 random read IOPS and a 1,200 TBW endurance rating. RGB lighting can be adjusted or switched off in Samsung Magician.

Bare drive or heatsink?

If your motherboard already has an M.2 heatsink, the bare 990 PRO 2TB is cheaper and uses the board's cooler instead. The heatsink version is too thick for laptops. In a desktop, check clearance near a large graphics card, as the heatsink stands just under 9mm tall. For PS5 owners who want one high-capacity drive and no fuss, this is the version to get.

FEATURES:

Factory-fitted heatsink for sustained performance

Slim design fits the PS5 and PCI-SIG D8 compliant systems

Customisable RGB lighting via Samsung Magician

Up to 7,450MB/s read and 6,900MB/s write

2GB Low Power DDR4 DRAM cache

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Samsung 990 PRO with Heatsink (MZ-V9P2T0CW)

Capacity: 2TB

Form factor: M.2 2280 with heatsink

Interface: PCIe 4.0 x4, NVMe 2.0

DRAM cache: 2GB Low Power DDR4 SDRAM

Sequential read: Up to 7,450MB/s

Sequential write: Up to 6,900MB/s

Random read (4KB, QD32): Up to 1,400,000 IOPS

Random write (4KB, QD32): Up to 1,550,000 IOPS

Endurance: 1,200 TBW

Power: 5.5W average, 8.5W maximum, 55mW idle

Lighting: RGB, controlled in Samsung Magician

Dimensions: 80.15 x 25 x 8.88mm (with heatsink)

Weight: Max. 28g

Warranty: 5 Year limited or 1,200 TBW, whichever comes first

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

1x Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 SSD with heatsink fitted

Why Samsung?

Samsung makes every major component of the 990 PRO in-house, from the V-NAND and DRAM to the controller and firmware.
