Samsung designed the heatsink to fit the PS5 and PCs that follow the PCI-SIG D8 height standard, so there is no need to buy and fit a third-party cooler. It also adds RGB lighting you can control in Samsung Magician, which shows through a windowed PC case.

Bare drive or heatsink?

Skip this version if your motherboard already has a heatsink over the M.2 slot, since you would have to remove the board's cooler or this one, and the bare 990 PRO is cheaper. It is also too thick for most laptops. The heatsink adds height (8.2mm) and weight (28g), so check clearance under large GPUs on some boards. For a PS5, this is the simplest high-end option available.

FEATURES:

Factory-fitted heatsink for sustained performance

Slim design fits the PS5 and PCI-SIG D8 compliant systems

Customisable RGB lighting via Samsung Magician

Up to 7,450MB/s read and 6,900MB/s write

About 50% better performance per watt than the 980 PRO Heatsink

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Samsung 990 PRO with Heatsink (MZ-V9P1T0CW)

Capacity: 1TB

Form factor: M.2 2280 with heatsink

Interface: PCIe 4.0 x4, NVMe 2.0

DRAM cache: 1GB Low Power DDR4 SDRAM

Sequential read: Up to 7,450MB/s

Sequential write: Up to 6,900MB/s

Random read (4KB, QD32): Up to 1,200,000 IOPS

Random write (4KB, QD32): Up to 1,550,000 IOPS

Random read (4KB, QD1): Up to 22,000 IOPS

Random write (4KB, QD1): Up to 80,000 IOPS

Endurance: 600 TBW

Power: 5.4W average, 7.8W maximum, 50mW idle

Lighting: RGB, controlled in Samsung Magician

Operating temperature: 0°C to 70°C

Dimensions: 80 x 24.3 x 8.2mm (with heatsink)

Weight: Max. 28g

Warranty: 5 Year limited or 600 TBW, whichever comes first

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

1x Samsung 990 PRO 1TB M.2 SSD with heatsink fitted

Why Samsung?

Samsung makes every major component of the 990 PRO in-house, from the V-NAND and DRAM to the controller and firmware.
