MSI rates this unit for 2x total power excursion and 3x GPU power excursion, which is the specification that matters when a modern graphics card pulls a millisecond spike far above its rated draw. Older supplies trip their protection on those spikes even when the average load is well within budget. This one is built to ride them out.

Cabling and Airflow

Every cable detaches, so a build with one GPU and two SATA drives leaves the rest in the box instead of stuffed behind the motherboard tray. The cables are flat rather than sleeved round, which matters in cases with shallow rear clearance. The native 16-pin cable runs 16-pin to 16-pin with no adapter block hanging off the card, and its yellow connector body is deliberately visible against black cabling. Cooling is a 120 mm fluid dynamic bearing fan, a longer-lived bearing type than the sleeve fans used further down MSI's range.

FEATURES:

Native PCIe 16-pin connector delivering up to 600W to a single graphics card

2x total power excursion and 3x GPU power excursion handling

Dual-colour 16-pin cable with a high-visibility yellow connector

Flat modular cables throughout for tighter routing

Full protection set: OCP, OVP, OPP, OTP, SCP and UVP

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5

Maximum Output: 850W

Efficiency: 80 PLUS Gold, up to 90%

Standards: ATX 3.1 Ready, PCIe 5.1 Ready

Modularity: Fully modular

Rail Design: Single +12V rail

Connectors: 1x ATX 24-pin, 2x EPS 4+4-pin, 1x PCIe 16-pin (600W), 4x PCIe 6+2-pin, 8x SATA, 4x Peripheral 4-pin, 1x FDD 4-pin

Fan: 120 mm, fluid dynamic bearing

Dimensions: 140 x 150 x 86 mm

Protections: OCP / OVP / OPP / OTP / SCP / UVP

Warranty: 5 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 power supply

AC power cord

Modular cable set including 16-pin to 16-pin PCIe cable

Mounting screws

Documentation

Why MSI?

MSI builds power supplies to the same excursion and protection standards it designs its own graphics cards against, which is why its ATX 3.1 units tend to behave predictably under transient load rather than tripping.
