What it adds is 100W of margin. That matters for a build with a 60-class GPU that you intend to upgrade later, or a 70-class card at the lower end of its power band, or a system with four or five drives and a full complement of case fans. It also means the supply runs further from its limit at peak, which keeps the fan slower and the capacitors cooler. For most South African mid-range builds this is the rung that makes sense.

Input Range and Local Conditions

The unit takes 100 to 240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz with active power factor correction, so it handles the 230V 50 Hz local supply without a selector switch and copes with the voltage sag that comes with a stressed grid. Behind that sits the same five-way protection set as the rest of the range. It is still non-modular, so plan for the unused SATA and Molex leads: a case with a PSU shroud swallows them, a small chassis without one does not. There is no 16-pin PCIe connector here, which is the line that separates it from the A750BN.

FEATURES:

100W more headroom than the A550BN on identical cabling

Active PFC with full-range 100 to 240 VAC input

80 PLUS Bronze efficiency up to 85%

120 mm fan for quiet operation at mid-range loads

Protection set covering OCP, OVP, OPP, OTP and SCP

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: MSI MAG A650BN

Maximum Output: 650W

Efficiency: 80 PLUS Bronze, up to 85%

Modularity: Non-modular

Input Voltage: 100 to 240 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz

PFC: Active

Connectors: 1x ATX 24-pin, 1x EPS 4+4-pin, 2x PCIe 6+2-pin, 5x SATA 15-pin, 2x Peripheral 4-pin, 1x FDD 4-pin

Fan: 120 mm, sleeve bearing

Dimensions: 140 x 150 x 86 mm

Protections: OCP / OVP / OPP / OTP / SCP

Warranty: 5 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

MSI MAG A650BN power supply with attached cabling

AC power cord

Mounting screws

Documentation

Why MSI?

MSI prices its Bronze ladder so that stepping up a rung costs less than the headroom is worth, which is why the 650W model outsells the 550W.
