It plugs straight into a MacBook, a USB4 or Thunderbolt 3/4 laptop or a USB-C iPad without adapters, and runs off bus power. LaCie rates it for drops of up to 1.2m (when not operating), rain, and being driven over by a car of about 1,000kg, so it copes with camera bags, site visits and travel. LaCie Toolkit software adds backup options, and the drive comes pre-formatted to work with Mac and Windows.

What you're getting at 2TB

The 1TB and 2TB versions are the slim ones at 18.7mm thick; the 4TB and 5TB are 26mm. The interface is USB 3.2 Gen 1 at 5Gb/s, but there's a spinning hard drive inside, so real-world speed is that of a portable HDD, not an SSD. For editing 4K footage directly from the drive, a portable SSD is the better tool. If your computer only has USB-A ports, the LaCie Rugged Mini comes with a USB 3.0 cable instead. Three years of Rescue Data Recovery Services are included, which is reassuring for client work.

FEATURES:

USB-C connector, compatible with USB4, USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 3/4 ports

Drop resistant to 1.2m (non-operating), crush resistant to a 1-ton car, rain resistant

Works with iPad and iPhone via USB-C

Bus powered, one cable for power and data

3 years of Rescue Data Recovery Services (not available in all countries)

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: LaCie Rugged USB-C 2TB (STFR2000800)

Capacity: 2TB

Interface: USB 3.2 Gen 1, up to 5Gb/s

Connector: USB-C

Host compatibility: USB4, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3

Power: USB bus powered

Drop resistance: 1.2m (non-operating)

Crush resistance: 1-ton car

Water resistance: Rain resistant

Compatibility: Most Windows and macOS systems (Time Machine may require reformatting)

Dimensions: 18.7 x 86 x 135.1mm

Colour: Orange

Rescue Data Recovery Services: 3 years

Warranty: 3 Year Limited

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

1x LaCie Rugged USB-C 2TB drive

1x USB-C cable (USB 3.1, 5Gb/s)

1x Quick Install Guide

Why LaCie?

LaCie is Seagate's creative-professional brand, and its orange Rugged drives have been a fixture on photo shoots and film sets for years.
