Add 36MB of cache, DDR5-6400 support, PCIe 5.0 with 24 lanes and Intel's AI Boost NPU, and this is Intel's most complete desktop processor — and notably better behaved thermally than the 14900K it succeeded, which is a real quality-of-life change.

Two honest comparisons

Against the Core Ultra 7 270K: identical core layout, identical cache, 200MHz less turbo, meaningfully cheaper. Most people should buy the 270K. Against AMD: for pure gaming a Ryzen 7 9800X3D is generally faster and much cooler for less money. The 285K makes sense when you want Intel's fastest, twenty-four cores of production capability, and the NPU, all in one machine. 250W maximum turbo, no cooler included — plan on a 360mm AIO.

FEATURES:

5.7GHz max turbo — Intel's fastest current desktop chip

8 P-cores + 16 E-cores with 36MB Smart Cache

Unlocked multiplier for Z890 overclocking

Intel AI Boost NPU — 13 TOPS; Xe graphics on board

DDR5 up to 6400 MT/s, max 256GB

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Intel Core Ultra 9 285K (BX80768285K)

Total Cores: 24 (8 Performance-cores + 16 Efficient-cores)

Threads: 24

P-core Base Frequency: 3.7 GHz

P-core Max Turbo Frequency: 5.5 GHz

Max Turbo Frequency: 5.7 GHz

Cache: 36 MB Intel Smart Cache

Processor Base Power: 125 W

Maximum Turbo Power: 250 W

Socket: FCLGA1851

Memory: DDR5 up to 6400 MT/s, 2 channels, max 256 GB

Integrated Graphics: Intel Graphics, 4 Xe-cores

NPU: Intel AI Boost, 13 TOPS (Int8)

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0 and 4.0, up to 24 lanes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor

Documentation

Cooler sold separately — 360mm AIO recommended

Why Intel?

Core Ultra delivers flagship performance without the thermal drama that dogged the previous generation.
