Thirty-two threads make this a legitimate content-creation machine as well as a gaming flagship, and it's fully unlocked for tuning on a Z790 board.

The honest caveats

This chip runs hot and hungry — 253W maximum turbo power, and a 360mm AIO is effectively mandatory rather than recommended. No cooler is included. For gaming specifically, a Ryzen 7 9800X3D generally delivers higher frame rates for much less money and a fraction of the heat, so the 14900K makes most sense when you want extreme clocks and thirty-two threads together. Note too that LGA1700 has reached the end of its life; there is no upgrade beyond this chip on the socket.

FEATURES:

6.0GHz max turbo — the fastest stock clock on any desktop CPU

24 cores and 32 threads for gaming plus heavy production work

Unlocked multiplier for overclocking on Z-series boards

36MB Smart Cache; UHD Graphics 770 on board

DDR5-5600 or DDR4-3200, up to 192GB

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Intel Core i9-14900K (BX8071514900K)

Total Cores: 24 (8 Performance-cores + 16 Efficient-cores)

Threads: 32

P-core Base Frequency: 3.2 GHz

Max Turbo Frequency: 6.0 GHz

Cache: 36 MB Intel Smart Cache

Processor Base Power: 125 W

Maximum Turbo Power: 253 W

Socket: FCLGA1700

Memory: DDR5 up to 5600 MT/s or DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s, 2 channels, max 192 GB

Integrated Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 770

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0 and 4.0, up to 20 lanes

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

Intel Core i9-14900K processor

Documentation

Cooler sold separately — 360mm AIO strongly recommended

Why Intel?

Reaching 6.0GHz out of the box is a genuine engineering milestone, whatever else you weigh up.
