It passes through and records at up to 4K144, plus 1440p144 and 1080p240, so PS5, Xbox Series X and gaming PC players can keep their TV or monitor's high-refresh modes while capturing. HDR10 and variable refresh rate passthrough are supported, and it's plug and play on Windows, Mac and USB-C iPads with OBS, Streamlabs, Twitch Studio, vMix, Meld and Elgato's own software. Elgato Capture adds unlimited recording with no watermarks, a separate commentary mic track, AAF export for editors and Stream Link.

Check your port and screen

To get the full 4K144 you need a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) port; on a 5Gbps Gen 1 port it still works, but at reduced capture resolutions. Displays using Display Stream Compression limit it to 4K120. HDR capture is currently Windows only. If you play at 4K60 or below, the cheaper Game Capture 4K S does the job. For a fixed streaming PC, the internal 4K Pro adds 8K60 passthrough. Only unencrypted HDMI can be captured, so turn off HDCP on PlayStation.

FEATURES:

Up to 4K144 capture and passthrough (4K120 with Display Stream Compression)

HDMI 2.1 with HDR10 and variable refresh rate passthrough

Plug and play on Windows, Mac and iPad

Works with OBS, Streamlabs Desktop, Twitch Studio, vMix and Meld Studio

Elgato Capture: unlimited recording, live commentary, AAF export, Stream Link

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Elgato Game Capture 4K X (10GBH9901)

Input: HDMI 2.1 (unencrypted)

Output: HDMI 2.1 (lag-free passthrough)

Passthrough and capture: Up to 4K144

Capture: 1080p up to 240fps, 1440p up to 144fps, 4K at 30/60/120/144fps

HDR: HDR10 (HDR capture Windows only)

VRR: Passthrough

Connection: USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps); Gen 1 at reduced resolution

Dimensions: 112 x 72 x 18mm

Weight: 91g

Windows: Windows 10 (64-bit) or newer; Core i5-6xxx or Ryzen 5; GeForce GTX 10xx or better

Mac/iPad: macOS 11 or iPadOS 17 or later; Apple M1 or Intel i5 4th-gen quad-core; 4GB RAM

Software: Elgato Studio (free download)

Warranty: Elgato limited warranty

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

Game Capture 4K X

USB 3.2 C-to-C cable (150cm)

8K HDMI cable (200cm)

Why Elgato?

Elgato has made game capture hardware for well over a decade, and its free capture software includes editing-friendly extras without subscriptions.
