That is the rare upgrade that is obviously worth taking. The RTX 5060 at 115W is a genuine 1440p card, so plugging into a 1440p monitor at home is a reasonable plan rather than a compromise, and the 1TB drive means you are not deleting one game to install another. The CPU is unchanged and was never the weak point.

Living with it

This is a 2.2kg 16-inch laptop with a 280W-class power brick - it is portable in the sense that it fits in a bag, not in the sense that you will forget it is there. Battery life under load is short, as it is on every machine of this type; the MUX switch and Advanced Optimus help considerably when you are just working, by handing the display back to the integrated graphics.

FEATURES:

RTX 5060 with 8GB GDDR7 at 115W, DLSS 4 multi frame generation

Intel Core i7-14650HX, 16 cores / 24 threads

1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD with a second M.2 slot free

MUX switch, NVIDIA Advanced Optimus and G-Sync

Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 FRL, three USB-A, RJ45 LAN

Wi-Fi 6E, 1080p IR camera with Windows Hello

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: ASUS TUF Gaming F16 (FX608JMR-I71610G0W)

Processor: Intel Core i7-14650HX (16 cores, 24 threads, up to 5.2GHz)

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, 8GB GDDR7, 115W

Memory: 16GB DDR5-5600 (2 slots, to 64GB)

Storage: 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, second M.2 slot free

Display: 16" 16:10 IPS-level anti-glare, G-Sync with MUX switch

Wireless: Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth

Keyboard: Backlit chiclet, single-zone RGB, Copilot key

Weight: 2.20kg

Operating system: Windows 11 Home

Warranty: 1 year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

ASUS TUF Gaming F16 laptop

Power adapter

Documentation

Why ASUS?

The TUF line is built to be used hard and kept for years, which is the right brief for a laptop at this price.
