Wi-Fi 7 is worth having in South Africa where fibre routers have moved on quickly and a wired run to the study is not always practical. Drop it into a compact mid-tower with a mid-range GPU and you have a machine that stays current for years.

What you accept for the smaller footprint

Expansion is the obvious cost. Micro-ATX gives you fewer slots, and a thick triple-slot graphics cooler will often block whatever sits below it. Header count is thinner too, so builders running six case fans and multiple RGB strips will need splitters. B850 as a platform has no USB4, so 40 Gb/s external enclosures need an X870 board. Wired networking is 2.5 Gb only. If you want more slots, more headers or USB4, the full-size B850-Plus or an X870 board is the better buy.

FEATURES:

TUF Gaming power stages with a large VRM heatsink

PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics slot with quick-release latch

PCIe 5.0 M.2 socket with tool-free heatsink plus additional M.2 storage

Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth and 2.5 Gb Realtek Ethernet

BIOS FlashBack, Q-LED diagnostics and Fan Xpert control

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: ASUS TUF Gaming B850M-Plus WiFi

Chipset: AMD B850

Socket: AMD Socket AM5

Form Factor: Micro-ATX (244 x 244 mm)

Memory: 4 x DDR5 DIMM slots, up to 256 GB, AMD EXPO support with high-speed overclocked profiles

Expansion Slots: 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 (graphics), plus additional PCIe slots

Storage: Multiple M.2 sockets (primary supports PCIe 5.0) plus 4 x SATA 6 Gb/s ports

Networking: Realtek 2.5 Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth

Audio: Realtek 7.1 surround high-definition audio with audio shielding

Rear I/O Highlights: HDMI and DisplayPort output, Wi-Fi antenna connectors, 2.5 Gb LAN, BIOS FlashBack button, audio jacks

USB: USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C plus USB 3.2 Gen 2, Gen 1 and USB 2.0 ports, with front-panel headers

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

TUF Gaming B850M-Plus WiFi motherboard

SATA 6 Gb/s cables

Wi-Fi moving antenna

M.2 mounting screws, standoffs and thermal pads

TUF Gaming sticker and cable ties

User guide and driver documentation

Why ASUS?

ASUS refreshes its boards as radios and standards move rather than leaving buyers on last year's wireless hardware.
