The B850-I does not ask you to. It carries a genuinely heavy VRM for its size, a PCIe 5.0 graphics slot, PCIe 5.0 M.2 storage, and Wi-Fi 7, all on a board that drops into an NR200 or a Formd T1 without argument. If you are building a compact machine for a small flat or a desk that already has too much on it, this is the AM5 board that lets you run a 9800X3D and a full-length GPU without accepting a lesser platform. ASUS also includes a bundled front-panel and audio breakout that keeps the cable run sane in a cramped chassis.

What Mini-ITX costs you

Two DIMM slots, not four, so your memory ceiling is lower and you are buying a two-stick kit from day one. There is one expansion slot, so no capture card alongside the GPU. Storage is limited to a couple of M.2 sockets and a small number of SATA ports, which rules out a large mechanical drive array. Cooling is tighter too, and the VRM heatsink relies on decent case airflow. If you want four DIMMs, a second GPU slot, or six SATA drives, buy the B850-F or a Micro-ATX board instead. Mini-ITX also carries a real price premium for the same chipset.

FEATURES:

Dense power delivery with integrated VRM heatsink and active cooling design

PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics slot with quick-release latch

PCIe 5.0 M.2 socket with heatsink plus a second M.2 socket

Wi-Fi 7 and 2.5 Gb Ethernet for low-latency networking

Bundled ROG front-panel audio and USB daughterboard to simplify SFF cabling

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: ASUS ROG Strix B850-I Gaming WiFi

Chipset: AMD B850

Socket: AMD Socket AM5

Form Factor: Mini-ITX (170 x 170 mm)

Memory: 2 x DDR5 DIMM slots, up to 96 GB, AMD EXPO support

Expansion Slots: 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16

Storage: 2 x M.2 sockets (primary supports PCIe 5.0) plus 2 x SATA 6 Gb/s ports

Networking: 2.5 Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth

Audio: ROG SupremeFX high-definition audio with dedicated headphone amplifier

Rear I/O Highlights: HDMI and DisplayPort output, Wi-Fi antenna connectors, 2.5 Gb LAN, BIOS FlashBack and Clear CMOS buttons

USB: USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C plus USB 3.2 Gen 2, Gen 1 and USB 2.0 ports

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

ROG Strix B850-I Gaming WiFi motherboard

ROG front-panel audio and USB daughterboard

SATA 6 Gb/s cables

Wi-Fi moving antenna

M.2 mounting screws and thermal pads

ROG cable ties, sticker sheet and user guide

Why ASUS?

ASUS has been building the best-regarded Mini-ITX gaming boards on the market for several generations, and the ROG Strix I-series is where that experience shows most clearly.
