You get a proper ROG Strix power stage array that will hold a Ryzen 9 at full boost without throttling, PCIe 5.0 for both the graphics slot and the primary M.2, and enough rear I/O that you are not hunting for a USB hub a week after the build. For most South African buyers pairing a 9700X or 9800X3D with a current-generation GPU, this is the board that removes every bottleneck that matters while leaving budget on the table for the graphics card. Memory training on AM5 has matured considerably, and EXPO profiles above 6000 MT/s load reliably here.

Where it stops short of X870E

B850 is not the top of the stack and it does not pretend to be. You get fewer chipset PCIe lanes than X870E, which means fewer usable expansion slots once you populate the M.2 sockets, and there is no second full-bandwidth x16 slot for dual-GPU or high-end capture setups. USB4 is not guaranteed on B850 the way it is on X870 boards. If you run multiple NVMe drives alongside a capture card and a 10 Gb NIC, or you want guaranteed USB4 for an external GPU enclosure, step up to X870 or X870E. For a single GPU and two or three SSDs, none of that costs you anything.

FEATURES:

Robust ROG power delivery with alloy chokes and a substantial VRM heatsink

PCIe 5.0 graphics slot with a quick-release latch for easy GPU removal

PCIe 5.0 M.2 socket with pre-mounted heatsink and tool-free installation

Wi-Fi 7 wireless plus 2.5 Gb wired networking

AI Overclocking, Fan Xpert and BIOS FlashBack in the ASUS UEFI

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: ASUS ROG Strix B850-F Gaming WiFi

Chipset: AMD B850

Socket: AMD Socket AM5

Form Factor: ATX (305 x 244 mm)

Memory: 4 x DDR5 DIMM slots, up to 256 GB, AMD EXPO support with high-speed overclocked profiles

Expansion Slots: 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 (primary graphics), additional PCIe x16 and x1 slots

Storage: Multiple M.2 sockets (primary supports PCIe 5.0) plus 4 x SATA 6 Gb/s ports

Networking: Realtek 2.5 Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth

Audio: ROG SupremeFX 7.1 surround HD audio codec with audio capacitors

Rear I/O Highlights: HDMI and DisplayPort video output, Wi-Fi antenna connectors, 2.5 Gb LAN, BIOS FlashBack and Clear CMOS buttons, audio jacks

USB: USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C plus multiple USB 3.2 Gen 2, Gen 1 and USB 2.0 ports front and rear

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

ROG Strix B850-F Gaming WiFi motherboard

SATA 6 Gb/s cables

Wi-Fi moving antenna

M.2 mounting screws and standoffs

ROG cable ties and sticker sheet

User guide and driver documentation

Why ASUS?

ASUS has spent two decades building the ROG line into the reference point everyone else is measured against, and their AM5 BIOS support has been among the most consistent in the market.
