It adds PCIe 5.0 for both the graphics slot and primary M.2, USB4 Type-C for docks and fast external storage, Wi-Fi 7, and a beefier VRM with heatsinks that keep a Ryzen 9 9950X stable under long renders. For a South African buyer specifying a serious AM5 machine that must last several GPU generations, it hits a genuinely good balance: most of what the Crosshair range offers, at a price closer to the mainstream boards.

What it still is not

This is not an X870E board. Chipset PCIe lanes and USB provisioning remain B850-level, so a build with several add-in cards plus a full NVMe array will run into sharing. Wired networking is 2.5GbE rather than 5 or 10 gigabit. There is no OLED display or extensive hardware overclocking button cluster, and extreme memory tuning has less headroom than a Crosshair Hero. If you only play games and never touch external storage or high-speed networking, the cheaper B850-A does the same job for less money.

FEATURES:

Reinforced VRM with heatpipe-linked heatsinks for sustained Ryzen 9 loads

PCIe 5.0 graphics slot plus PCIe 5.0 M.2 storage support

USB4 Type-C connectivity for docks, displays and fast enclosures

Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth alongside 2.5 Gigabit wired Ethernet

PCIe Q-Release Slim, M.2 Q-Latch and BIOS FlashBack convenience features

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: ASUS ROG Strix B850-E Gaming WiFi

Chipset: AMD B850

Socket: AMD AM5

Form Factor: ATX

Memory: 4 x DDR5 DIMM slots, dual channel, up to 192GB, high-frequency AMD EXPO profiles supported

Expansion Slots: PCIe 5.0 x16 primary graphics slot plus additional PCIe x16 and x1 expansion

Storage: Multiple M.2 NVMe sockets including PCIe 5.0, plus four SATA 6Gb/s ports

Networking: 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth

Audio: ROG SupremeFX high-definition audio with headphone amplifier

Rear I/O Highlights: USB4 Type-C, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, BIOS FlashBack and Clear CMOS buttons, Wi-Fi antenna mounts

USB: USB4 Type-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A and Type-C, USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 rear ports plus front-panel Type-C header

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

ASUS ROG Strix B850-E Gaming WiFi motherboard

2 x SATA 6Gb/s cables

Wi-Fi moving antenna

M.2 Q-Latch package and mounting screws

ROG stickers, cable ties, user manual and driver documentation

Why ASUS?

ROG Strix is where ASUS concentrates its best price-to-engineering ratio, borrowing power delivery and BIOS work directly from the Crosshair flagships.
