You get PCIe 5.0 M.2 bandwidth, a VRM comfortably rated for a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or Ryzen 9 9950X, Wi-Fi 7, 2.5GbE, tool-free storage mounting and a mature ROG BIOS with EXPO memory tuning. The white finish also solves a real problem for South African builders assembling white-themed cases, where matching components are usually scarce and expensive. Paired with a 9800X3D it will not bottleneck any GPU you can buy locally.

Where the savings show

B850 provides fewer chipset PCIe lanes and USB ports than X870E, and the primary graphics slot runs at PCIe 4.0 rather than 5.0 — a difference that is currently invisible in games but worth knowing if you plan to keep the board for many GPU generations. There is no USB4, no diagnostic display and no 10GbE. Heavy multi-card workstation configurations will run out of lanes. If you need Thunderbolt-class ports, 10-gig networking or extreme memory overclocking headroom, look at the ROG Crosshair X870E range instead.

FEATURES:

Strong VRM with heatsinks rated for high-end Ryzen 9 processors

PCIe 5.0 M.2 storage with pre-fitted heatsinks and Q-Latch mounting

Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth plus 2.5 Gigabit wired Ethernet

PCIe Q-Release Slim mechanism for one-touch graphics card removal

ROG SupremeFX audio, Aura Sync RGB headers and BIOS FlashBack

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: ASUS ROG Strix B850-A Gaming WiFi

Chipset: AMD B850

Socket: AMD AM5

Form Factor: ATX

Memory: 4 x DDR5 DIMM slots, dual channel, up to 192GB, AMD EXPO profiles supported

Expansion Slots: PCIe 4.0 x16 primary graphics slot plus additional PCIe x16 and x1 expansion

Storage: Multiple M.2 NVMe sockets including PCIe 5.0, plus four SATA 6Gb/s ports

Networking: 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth

Audio: ROG SupremeFX high-definition audio with headphone amplifier

Rear I/O Highlights: HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C, BIOS FlashBack and Clear CMOS buttons, Wi-Fi antenna mounts

USB: USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 rear ports plus front-panel Type-C header

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

ASUS ROG Strix B850-A Gaming WiFi motherboard

2 x SATA 6Gb/s cables

Wi-Fi moving antenna

M.2 Q-Latch package and mounting screws

ROG stickers, cable ties, user manual and driver documentation

Why ASUS?

ASUS puts its mainstream ROG Strix boards through the same validation programme as its flagships, so the BIOS and memory support are equally current.
