The 20+2+2 power stages, AI Overclocking and Dynamic OC Switcher handle heavy all-core loads, and the Extreme OC kit adds ReTry and Start buttons, an LN2 jumper and FlexKey. Two CPU-connected PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots with a 3D vapour-chamber heatsink suit fast Gen5 SSDs. The 10Gb port matters if you have a 10GbE NAS or switch; otherwise the 5Gb port and Wi-Fi 7 will cover you. ROG supplies a DDR5 fan holder and a 60mm assistant fan in the box.

Trade-offs to know before buying

Lane sharing is the main catch: M.2_2 shares bandwidth with the USB4 ports, so filling every slot means planning what runs at full speed. Only four SATA ports are fitted, and two of them run off an ASMedia controller that does not support RAID. Ryzen 8000 APUs drop the x16 slots and M.2 slots to PCIe 4.0. The Wi-Fi 7 module needs Windows 11, with no Windows 10 driver. If you don't overclock, a ROG Strix X870-A Gaming WiFi or X870E-E gives most of the features for far less.

FEATURES:

20+2+2 power stages with Extreme Engine Digi+ and 10K black metallic capacitors

Two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and two PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slots with 3D VC M.2 heatsink

Realtek 10Gb and 5Gb Ethernet, plus Wi-Fi 7 (320MHz) and Bluetooth 5.4

ROG SupremeFX ALC4082 codec with ESS ES9219 Quad DAC

Front USB 20Gbps Type-C with up to 60W PD/QC4+ fast charging

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR X870E DARK HERO (90MB1NT0-M0EAY0)

CPU: AMD Socket AM5 for Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 Series desktop processors

Chipset: AMD X870E

Memory: 4 x DIMM, max. 256GB, DDR5, ECC and non-ECC unbuffered, dual channel, EXPO, AEMP, DIMM Fit, NitroPath DRAM; 8200+ MT/s rated (Ryzen 9000)

Graphics outputs: 1 x HDMI, 2 x USB4 40Gbps Type-C with display output

Expansion slots: 2 x PCIe 5.0 x16 (x16 or x8/x8) with Ryzen 9000/7000

Storage: M.2_1 and M.2_2 PCIe 5.0 x4 (CPU), M.2_3 and M.2_4 PCIe 4.0 x4 (chipset), M.2_5 PCIe 4.0 x2 (2230); 4 x SATA 6Gb/s (2 chipset, 2 ASMedia ASM1162)

RAID: AMD RAIDXpert2, RAID 0/1/5/10

LAN: 1 x Realtek 10Gb Ethernet, 1 x Realtek 5Gb Ethernet, ASUS LANGuard

Wireless: Wi-Fi 7 (MediaTek MT7927, 2x2, 2.4/5/6GHz, up to 320MHz), Bluetooth 5.4

Rear USB: 2 x USB4 40Gbps Type-C, 9 x USB 10Gbps (6 Type-A, 3 Type-C)

Front USB: 1 x USB 20Gbps Type-C (up to 60W PD), 1 x USB 20Gbps Type-C, 2 x USB 5Gbps headers, 3 x USB 2.0 headers

Audio: ROG SupremeFX 7.1 (Realtek ALC4082), ESS ES9219 Quad DAC, 120 dB SNR playback, optical S/PDIF out

Back panel: BIOS FlashBack and Clear CMOS buttons, HDMI, Wi-Fi module, 2 x gold-plated audio jacks

Fan headers: 1 x CPU, 1 x CPU OPT, 1 x AIO pump, 4 x chassis (4-pin), W_PUMP+, AIO Q-Connector

Power connectors: 1 x 24-pin main, 2 x 8-pin +12V, 1 x 8-pin PCIe

RGB: 3 x Addressable Gen 2 headers, Polymo Lighting II

Other: PCIe mode switch, FlexKey, ReTry and Start buttons, LN2 mode jumper, thermal sensor header

BIOS: 64 MB Flash ROM, UEFI AMI BIOS

OS support: Windows 11

Form factor: ATX, 30.5 x 24.4 cm

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Dark Hero motherboard

4 x SATA 6Gb/s cables

DDR5 fan holder, 60mm ROG assistant fan and screw package

M.2 22110 thermal pad

ASUS Wi-Fi Q-Antenna

Q-Connector

3 x M.2 Q-Slide packages, 5 x M.2 backplate rubber packages

ROG stickers, ROG VIP card, bottle opener

Quick start guide

Why ASUS?

The Crosshair line is ROG's AMD flagship series, and its BIOS and overclocking tools are a reference point for AM5 tuning.
