It is a strong match for a Ryzen 5 9600X or Ryzen 7 9700X in a compact case, and the Gen5 M.2 socket means your boot drive is not the thing holding the machine back in three years. For South African buyers in a flat or a shared house where running network cable is not an option, the on-board Wi-Fi genuinely saves you a purchase.

The compromises that come with the price

The graphics slot is PCIe 4.0 rather than 5.0, which costs nothing measurable today but is a real difference on paper against the ATX B850 boards. VRM cooling is adequate rather than generous, so a Ryzen 9 under a sustained all-core load is not the intended pairing. Micro-ATX also means fewer expansion slots, and a thick triple-slot graphics card will cover most of what is left. If you need more slots, more USB or Ryzen 9 headroom, move up to the B850 Pro RS.

FEATURES:

Digital power design with alloy chokes and aluminium VRM heatsinks

Blazing M.2 socket with PCIe Gen5 support and pre-mounted heatsink

Wi-Fi with Bluetooth plus 2.5 Gigabit Lightning Gaming LAN

Addressable RGB headers with ASRock Polychrome SYNC

ASRock Instant Flash and BIOS Flashback for CPU-free firmware updates

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: ASRock B850M-X WiFi

Chipset: AMD B850

Socket: AMD Socket AM5

Form Factor: Micro-ATX

Memory: 4 x DDR5 DIMM slots, dual channel, up to 256GB with AMD EXPO and manual overclocking

Expansion Slots: 1 x PCIe 4.0 x16 graphics slot plus additional PCIe x1 slots

Storage: 2 x M.2 sockets (including PCIe Gen5) and 4 x SATA 6Gb/s ports

Networking: 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet and on-board Wi-Fi with Bluetooth

Audio: Realtek 7.1 channel HD audio codec

Rear I/O Highlights: USB Type-C, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, Wi-Fi antenna mounts, LAN and audio jacks

USB: USB 10Gbps Type-C and Type-A, USB 5Gbps and USB 2.0 ports, front panel USB-C header

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

ASRock B850M-X WiFi motherboard

Wi-Fi antennas

2 x SATA 6Gb/s cables

M.2 mounting screws and standoffs

Quick installation guide and support documentation

Why ASRock?

ASRock brings the newest chipsets down to sensible money faster than anyone else in the market, without cutting the features that matter.
