With twenty-four fast cores rather than sixty-four slow ones, it is the PRO part that actually feels quick to work on — CAD, modelling, grading, timeline scrubbing — while still offering ECC RDIMM support and 144 usable PCIe 5.0 lanes for GPUs, capture and storage.

Why not just buy more cores?

Because most professional work is a mix. If your day is largely interactive with periodic renders, the 9965WX beats a 7985WX where you spend your time and loses only on the render bar. Choose more cores when the render queue genuinely is the job. Note the platform requirements are unchanged — WRX90 board, eight RDIMMs for full bandwidth, sTR5 cooling for 350W — and nothing is included in the box.

FEATURES:

24C/48T Zen 5 with a 5.4GHz boost

8-channel DDR5-6400 with ECC RDIMM, enabled by default

144 usable PCIe 5.0 lanes

AMD PRO manageability and security features

128MB L3 cache; fully unlocked

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9965WX (100-100000724WOF)

Cores / Threads: 24 / 48

Base Clock: 4.2 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.4 GHz

L2 Cache: 24 MB

L3 Cache: 128 MB

Default TDP: 350 W

Socket: sTR5

Process Node: TSMC 4nm FinFET (CPU cores), TSMC 6nm FinFET (I/O die)

Memory: DDR5 up to 6400 MT/s, 8 channels, ECC RDIMM supported (enabled by default)

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0, 148 lanes total (144 usable, 128 at PCIe 5.0)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9965WX processor

Documentation

Cooler sold separately — sTR5-compatible cooling required

Why AMD?

DDR5-6400 across eight channels gives twenty-four cores more bandwidth than most builds will ever manage to use.
