The 7965WX gives you the full PRO feature set (eight memory channels, ECC RDIMM support, 144 usable lanes, AMD PRO manageability) with a twenty-four-core configuration that holds a 5.3GHz boost. That makes it much better at interactive work than the higher-core PRO parts, while still driving multiple GPUs, capture cards and NVMe arrays at full width.

Choosing between this and a 7960X

The non-PRO 7960X has the same twenty-four cores and clocks for meaningfully less money. You pay the difference for eight memory channels instead of four, 144 lanes instead of 88, RDIMM ECC support and the PRO management features. If none of those are on your requirements list, buy the 7960X. If they are, this is the cheapest way to get them. 350W, sTR5 cooling required, nothing bundled.

FEATURES:

24C/48T at up to 5.3GHz — strong interactive performance

8-channel DDR5-5200 with ECC RDIMM, enabled by default

144 usable PCIe 5.0 lanes

AMD PRO manageability and security features

128MB L3 cache; fully unlocked

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7965WX (100-100000885WOF)

Cores / Threads: 24 / 48

Base Clock: 4.2 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.3 GHz

L2 Cache: 24 MB

L3 Cache: 128 MB

Default TDP: 350 W

Socket: sTR5

Process Node: TSMC 5nm FinFET (CPU cores), TSMC 6nm FinFET (I/O die)

Memory: DDR5 up to 5200 MT/s, 8 channels, ECC RDIMM supported (enabled by default)

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0, 148 lanes total (144 usable, 128 at PCIe 5.0)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7965WX processor

Documentation

Cooler sold separately — sTR5-compatible cooling required

Why AMD?

Offering the full PRO platform at twenty-four cores means you buy the capability you need, not the core count.
