That's the specification for a machine hosting large datasets in memory, running many GPUs, or serving as a always-on virtualisation and simulation host. AMD PRO also brings the manageability and security features IT departments ask for when a workstation sits on a corporate network.

An older platform, chosen deliberately

The 5995WX is Zen 3 on sWRX8 with DDR4 and PCIe 4.0 — a generation behind the sTR5 parts on DDR5 and PCIe 5.0. People still specify it for a clear reason: memory capacity. 2TB of ECC DDR4 across eight channels is cheaper to reach than the equivalent in DDR5, and for in-memory datasets that's the whole ballgame. If you don't need that capacity or the 128 lanes, a newer 9965WX will be faster per core. No cooler is included, and sWRX8 cooling is specific to the socket.

FEATURES:

64C/128T with 256MB of L3 cache

8-channel DDR4-3200 with ECC — UDIMM, RDIMM and LRDIMM up to 2TB

128 PCIe 4.0 lanes

AMD PRO manageability and security features

Fully unlocked for overclocking

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX (100-100000444WOF)

Cores / Threads: 64 / 128

Base Clock: 2.7 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 4.5 GHz

L2 Cache: 32 MB

L3 Cache: 256 MB

Default TDP: 280 W

Socket: sWRX8

Process Node: TSMC 7nm FinFET

Memory: DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s, 8 channels, ECC supported (UDIMM / RDIMM / LRDIMM, up to 2 TB)

PCI Express: PCIe 4.0, 128 lanes

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX processor

Documentation

Cooler sold separately — sWRX8-compatible cooling required

Why AMD?

Eight memory channels and 128 lanes on a workstation socket is what lets one machine replace a small rack.
