With 128 threads all pulling on quad-channel memory, that bandwidth increase is not a footnote — it directly feeds render, simulation and compile workloads that would otherwise be waiting on RAM.

Same platform realities

It's still a 350W part with a 3.2GHz base and no cooler in the box, and it still needs a TRX50-class board, four DDR5 modules and sTR5-specific cooling. Per-core speed under all-core load is modest by design; this chip is bought for aggregate throughput. If your work is more mixed than that, the 24-core 9965WX or the 32-core 7970X will feel quicker day to day for far less outlay.

FEATURES:

64C/128T on Zen 5 with a 5.4GHz boost

256MB L3 cache

Quad-channel DDR5-6400 with ECC enabled by default

88 usable PCIe 5.0 lanes

Fully unlocked for overclocking

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9980X (100-100001593WOF)

Cores / Threads: 64 / 128

Base Clock: 3.2 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.4 GHz

L2 Cache: 64 MB

L3 Cache: 256 MB

Default TDP: 350 W

Socket: sTR5

Process Node: TSMC 4nm FinFET (CPU cores), TSMC 6nm FinFET (I/O die)

Memory: DDR5 up to 6400 MT/s, 4 channels, ECC supported (enabled by default)

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0, 92 lanes total (88 usable)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9980X processor

Documentation

Cooler sold separately — sTR5-compatible cooling required

Why AMD?

Lifting memory support to DDR5-6400 is what keeps 128 threads working rather than waiting.
