The 7980X pairs that with 256MB of L3 cache and quad-channel ECC memory, so large scenes and datasets stay fed. Eighty-eight usable PCIe 5.0 lanes let you hang multiple GPUs and a serious storage array off one machine without any of them being throttled.

A 350W part with a 3.2GHz base

Two things to be clear about. The base clock is 3.2GHz — under an all-core load this chip is about aggregate throughput, not per-core speed, so lightly threaded applications will feel slower than on a 7970X. And cooling 350W across sixty-four cores demands a proper sTR5 solution and a case built for airflow; nothing is supplied. If your pipeline doesn't genuinely saturate this many cores, the 7970X is the better-balanced buy.

FEATURES:

64C/128T for the heaviest render and simulation workloads

256MB L3 cache

Quad-channel DDR5-5200 with ECC enabled by default

88 usable PCIe 5.0 lanes for multi-GPU and NVMe arrays

Fully unlocked for overclocking

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7980X (100-100001350WOF)

Cores / Threads: 64 / 128

Base Clock: 3.2 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.1 GHz

L2 Cache: 64 MB

L3 Cache: 256 MB

Default TDP: 350 W

Socket: sTR5

Process Node: TSMC 5nm FinFET (CPU cores), TSMC 6nm FinFET (I/O die)

Memory: DDR5 up to 5200 MT/s, 4 channels, ECC supported (enabled by default)

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0, 92 lanes total (88 usable)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7980X processor

Documentation

Cooler sold separately — sTR5-compatible cooling required

Why AMD?

Sixty-four cores in a workstation you can build yourself is a capability that simply didn't exist before Threadripper.
