Eighty-eight usable PCIe 5.0 lanes mean multiple GPUs, several NVMe drives and high-speed capture or networking cards all running at full width simultaneously. Quad-channel DDR5 with ECC support feeds forty-eight threads without starving them. For 3D rendering, multi-stream video production, simulation and heavy virtualisation, that combination is what makes the machine feel unlimited.

Budget for the whole platform

The chip is one part of the cost: a TRX50 motherboard, four sticks of DDR5 (RDIMM for ECC), a 350W-capable cooling solution and a power supply to match all add up. Nothing is included in the box, and air cooling a 350W part properly means a large dedicated sTR5 cooler or a purpose-built AIO. Gaming performance is fine but not exceptional — a 9800X3D beats it for a tenth of the money. Buy Threadripper for professional throughput.

FEATURES:

24C/48T with a 5.3GHz boost

128MB L3 cache

Quad-channel DDR5-5200 with ECC support, enabled by default

88 usable PCIe 5.0 lanes for multi-GPU and multi-NVMe builds

Fully unlocked for overclocking

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7960X (100-100001352WOF)

Cores / Threads: 24 / 48

Base Clock: 4.2 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.3 GHz

L2 Cache: 24 MB

L3 Cache: 128 MB

Default TDP: 350 W

Socket: sTR5

Process Node: TSMC 5nm FinFET (CPU cores), TSMC 6nm FinFET (I/O die)

Memory: DDR5 up to 5200 MT/s, 4 channels, ECC supported (enabled by default)

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0, 92 lanes total (88 usable)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7960X processor

Documentation

Cooler sold separately — sTR5-compatible cooling required

Why AMD?

Threadripper gave independent studios access to lane counts and memory bandwidth that used to be server-only.
