Blender, DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, large C++ builds, heavy virtualisation — all of it scales onto those cores, and the high boost keeps everyday single-threaded work snappy too. For freelancers and studios who need real throughput but not 128GB of ECC RAM, this is the sensible ceiling.

Plan the cooling and the case

170W is a serious thermal load and there's no cooler included — a 280mm or 360mm AIO is the realistic minimum if you want the chip to hold its boost clocks under sustained load. Gaming-wise it's fast but not the fastest; the 9800X3D beats it on frame rates for much less money. And if your work leans specifically on cache-heavy simulation, the 9950X3D below is worth the comparison.

FEATURES:

16C/32T Zen 5, boosting to 5.7GHz

64MB L3 cache with PCIe 5.0

Workstation-class rendering and encoding throughput

DDR5-5600 support up to 256GB

Integrated Radeon graphics for display-out

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X (100-100001277WOF)

Cores / Threads: 16 / 32

Base Clock: 4.3 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.7 GHz

L2 Cache: 16 MB

L3 Cache: 64 MB

Integrated Graphics: AMD Radeon Graphics (2 GPU cores, 2200 MHz)

Default TDP: 170 W

Socket: AM5

Process Node: TSMC 4nm FinFET (CPU cores), 6nm FinFET (I/O die)

Memory: DDR5 up to 5600 MT/s, dual channel, up to 256 GB

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0 (28 lanes total, 24 usable)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X processor

Documentation and case badge

Cooler sold separately

Why AMD?

Sixteen cores at 5.7GHz on a standard AM5 board is performance that once meant a second machine and a much bigger invoice.
