At 65W TDP it is easy to cool quietly, works on an ordinary B650 board, and still boosts to 5.4GHz for snappy gaming. The 64MB of L3 and PCIe 5.0 mean it is not cut down like the 8000 series, and the small Radeon iGPU keeps the PC usable if your graphics card is out. The bundled Wraith Prism adds RGB lighting and is adequate at stock settings.

Who should look elsewhere

If you only game, twelve cores are more than games use. An eight-core chip, or an X3D part with extra cache, will match or beat it in frames per second for less money. If you run long all-core workloads, the 7900X or 9900X with higher power limits will finish faster, at the cost of more heat. You need an AM5 board and DDR5 memory; DDR4 will not work. For heavy sustained loads, a good tower cooler or AIO will hold boost clocks better than the stock Wraith Prism.

FEATURES:

12 cores / 24 threads on Zen 4

65W TDP with boost up to 5.4GHz

64MB L3 cache and PCIe 5.0

Integrated Radeon graphics for display output

Unlocked, with Precision Boost Overdrive, Curve Optimizer and EXPO

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen 9 7900 (100-100000590BOX)

Architecture: Zen 4, TSMC 5nm (CPU) / 6nm (I/O die)

Cores / Threads: 12 / 24

Base Clock: 3.7 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.4 GHz

L1 / L2 / L3 Cache: 768 KB / 12 MB / 64 MB

Default TDP: 65 W

Socket: AM5

Supported Chipsets: A620, B650, B650E, X670, X670E, B840, B850, X870, X870E

Memory: DDR5, dual channel, up to 128 GB (DDR5-5200 with 2 modules)

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0 (28 lanes total, 24 usable)

Integrated Graphics: AMD Radeon Graphics, 2 cores, 2200 MHz

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Max Operating Temperature: 95°C

Bundled Cooler: AMD Wraith Prism

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen 9 7900 processor

AMD Wraith Prism cooler

Documentation and case badge

Why AMD?

AMD's non-X Ryzen 9 brings twelve cores to normal power budgets, on a socket with years of upgrades ahead.
