For Blender renders, video encoding, large compiles, VM hosts or anything that scales across threads, it delivers workstation-class throughput on cheap DDR4 and an inexpensive B550 or X570 board. If you already own the platform, this is the biggest single leap in productivity performance available to you.

Not the right chip for pure gaming

Games rarely use more than eight cores, and spreading them across two core complexes can actually cost a little performance. For a gaming-first build the 5800X3D beats it comfortably, and the 5800XT matches it for less. Also plan the cooling and power properly: 105W across sixteen cores wants a serious tower cooler or a 240mm AIO, and no cooler is included. Buy this when the workload is genuinely multi-threaded.

FEATURES:

16 cores and 32 threads — the most AM4 ever offered

64MB L3 cache with PCIe 4.0

Boosts to 4.8GHz for responsive single-thread work

Unlocked for overclocking

Workstation throughput on affordable DDR4

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT (100-100001581WOF)

Cores / Threads: 16 / 32

Base Clock: 3.3 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 4.8 GHz

L2 Cache: 8 MB

L3 Cache: 64 MB

Integrated Graphics: None — discrete graphics card required

Default TDP: 105 W

Socket: AM4

Process Node: TSMC 7nm FinFET (CPU cores)

Memory: DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s, dual channel, up to 128 GB

PCI Express: PCIe 4.0 (24 lanes total, 20 usable)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT processor

Documentation and case badge

Cooler sold separately

Why AMD?

Sixteen cores on a mainstream consumer socket was unheard of before Ryzen, and it's still where AMD leads on value.
