The 9850X3D closes that gap: the same 96MB of 3D V-Cache and the same 4.7GHz base as the 9800X3D, but boosting 400MHz higher to 5.6GHz. That extra headroom shows up in the places cache alone doesn't help — lightly threaded work, application responsiveness, and games that lean on raw clock rather than memory locality. It's the most complete gaming eight-core AMD has made.

Diminishing returns, honestly

The 9800X3D already sits at the top of nearly every gaming chart, and the 9850X3D's advantage is a handful of percent for a real price step. At 1440p and above, with the graphics card doing most of the work, you may struggle to see it at all. Buy this if you want the outright best eight-core and the budget allows; the 9800X3D is the better value. Either way it runs at 120W with no cooler in the box — plan for a good AIO.

FEATURES:

5.6GHz boost — highest clock of any X3D processor

96MB L3 cache via second-generation 3D V-Cache

Fully unlocked for overclocking and PBO tuning

PCIe 5.0 for graphics and NVMe

DDR5-5600 support up to 256GB

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D (100-100001973WOF)

Cores / Threads: 8 / 16

Base Clock: 4.7 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.6 GHz

L2 Cache: 8 MB

L3 Cache: 96 MB (AMD 3D V-Cache)

Integrated Graphics: AMD Radeon Graphics (2 GPU cores, 2200 MHz)

Default TDP: 120 W

Socket: AM5

Process Node: TSMC 4nm FinFET (CPU cores), 6nm FinFET (I/O die)

Memory: DDR5 up to 5600 MT/s, dual channel, up to 256 GB

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0 (28 lanes total, 24 usable)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor

Documentation and case badge

Cooler sold separately

Why AMD?

Getting 5.6GHz out of a cache-stacked die is an engineering answer to the one criticism X3D ever had.
