Rendering, code builds, big Photoshop and Premiere projects all scale onto those threads. That it does all of it at 65W is the surprising part: a good tower air cooler is enough.

Where the X3D chips take over

If the machine exists purely to play games, the 9800X3D is measurably faster for frame rates, and the gap widens in cache-heavy titles. The 9700X answers back everywhere else — it holds higher clocks, so it wins in encoding, rendering and compiling, and it usually costs less. Choose the 9700X for a mixed workload, the 9800X3D for a pure gaming rig. Budget for a cooler either way; neither includes one.

FEATURES:

Zen 5 architecture boosting to 5.5GHz

Full 32MB L3 cache and PCIe 5.0

65W TDP — high performance without a big cooling bill

DDR5-5600 support up to 256GB

Integrated Radeon graphics for display-out

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X (100-100001404WOF)

Cores / Threads: 8 / 16

Base Clock: 3.8 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.5 GHz

L2 Cache: 8 MB

L3 Cache: 32 MB

Integrated Graphics: AMD Radeon Graphics (2 GPU cores, 2200 MHz)

Default TDP: 65 W

Socket: AM5

Process Node: TSMC 4nm FinFET (CPU cores), 6nm (I/O die)

Memory: DDR5 up to 5600 MT/s, dual channel, up to 256 GB

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0 (28 lanes total, 24 usable)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen 7 9700X processor

Documentation and case badge

Cooler sold separately

Why AMD?

Eight cores at 5.5GHz on 65W is the kind of efficiency that keeps a build quiet without giving anything up.
