Simulators, strategy games, big open worlds and anything with heavy streaming of assets benefit most. Paired with a strong graphics card at 1440p, the 7800X3D remains one of the few CPUs that genuinely never becomes the limiting factor.

7800X3D or 9800X3D?

The 9800X3D is faster — newer Zen 5 cores and higher clocks — and costs more. The 7800X3D typically sits at a friendlier price and gives up single-digit percentages in most games. Both share the same weakness: modest clocks mean rendering and encoding are slower than on a 9700X. And at 120W with cache stacked on the cores, this one wants a proper 240mm AIO or a large tower cooler, which isn't included.

FEATURES:

96MB L3 cache via AMD 3D V-Cache

Exceptional 1% lows — smooth frame pacing, not just high averages

PCIe 5.0 for graphics and NVMe storage

8C/16T on the long-lived AM5 socket

Integrated Radeon graphics for display-out

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (100-100000910WOF)

Cores / Threads: 8 / 16

Base Clock: 4.2 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.0 GHz

L2 Cache: 8 MB

L3 Cache: 96 MB (AMD 3D V-Cache)

Integrated Graphics: AMD Radeon Graphics (2 GPU cores, 2200 MHz)

Default TDP: 120 W

Socket: AM5

Process Node: TSMC 5nm FinFET (CPU cores), 6nm FinFET (I/O die)

Memory: DDR5 up to 5200 MT/s, dual channel, up to 128 GB

PCI Express: PCIe 5.0 (28 lanes total, 24 usable)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor

Documentation and case badge

Cooler sold separately

Why AMD?

No Intel desktop chip has an answer to 3D V-Cache, which is why X3D parts sit at the top of gaming charts.
