Sixteen threads absorb game-plus-stream, game-plus-Discord-plus-browser, and real creative work — Premiere exports, Blender renders, code builds — far better than any six-core. It keeps the full 32MB L3 and PCIe 4.0 for gaming performance, and holds all of that inside 65W, so your existing cooler is probably fine.

Two things to plan for

No cooler comes in the box, so you'll need one — though a mid-range tower easily handles 65W. And the 3.4GHz base is low; the chip relies on boost, which means good case airflow pays off here. For pure gaming on AM4 the 5800X3D is still the faster part, but it costs considerably more and is worse at everything that isn't a game. The 5700X is the all-rounder.

FEATURES:

8C/16T for gaming, streaming and content work

Full 32MB L3 cache with PCIe 4.0

65W TDP — modest cooling requirements for eight cores

Unlocked on B450/B550/X570 boards

Supports up to 128GB DDR4-3200

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X (100-100000926WOF)

Cores / Threads: 8 / 16

Base Clock: 3.4 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 4.6 GHz

L2 Cache: 4 MB

L3 Cache: 32 MB

Integrated Graphics: None — discrete graphics card required

Default TDP: 65 W

Socket: AM4

Process Node: TSMC 7nm FinFET

Memory: DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s, dual channel, up to 128 GB

PCI Express: PCIe 4.0

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: Not included

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X processor

Documentation and case badge

Cooler sold separately

Why AMD?

A five-year-old motherboard taking a current eight-core chip is the whole argument for AM4.
