Radeon 740M handles esports titles and light gaming at 1080p, plays back 4K video without breaking a sweat, and drives multiple monitors — which makes this the obvious brain for an office machine, a media PC, or a gaming build where the card comes later. Because it's AM5, that later upgrade is just the card; the board and DDR5 stay.

The hybrid core layout, explained

The 8500G mixes two full Zen 4 cores (up to 4.1GHz) with four smaller Zen 4c cores (3.3GHz) — all six are real cores running the same instructions, but the 4c cores clock lower. That keeps the chip cheap and cool, and it works fine for browsing, office work and light gaming. For heavy gaming it means the 8500G trails a straightforward six-core like the 7600 or 8400F. If a graphics card is definitely going in, buy one of those instead; buy the 8500G because you want it to work without one.

FEATURES:

Radeon 740M graphics — no discrete card required

Up to 5.0GHz boost on the Zen 4 cores

AM5 platform with a long upgrade path

65W TDP, ideal for small quiet builds

Unlocked for overclocking

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen 5 8500G (100-100000931BOX)

Cores / Threads: 6 / 12 (2× Zen 4 up to 4.1 GHz, 4× Zen 4c at 3.3 GHz)

Base Clock: 3.5 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 5.0 GHz

L2 Cache: 6 MB

L3 Cache: 16 MB

Integrated Graphics: AMD Radeon 740M (4 GPU cores, 2800 MHz)

Default TDP: 65 W

Socket: AM5

Process Node: TSMC 4nm FinFET

Memory: DDR5 up to 5200 MHz (up to 96 GB); LPDDR5 up to 64 GB

PCI Express: PCIe 4.0

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen 5 8500G processor

AMD cooler (as supplied in the retail box)

Documentation and case badge

Why AMD?

An AMD APU turns a graphics card from a requirement into a choice, which is exactly what a staged build needs.
