amd-ryzen-5-5500-6-core-3-6ghz-am4-cpu
AMD Ryzen 5 5500 6-Core 3.6GHz AM4 CPU

Double the L3 cache of the 4500 for a small step up in price — the budget sweet spot on AM4.

Quick Specs

6 cores / 12 threads, 3.6GHz base, up to 4.2GHz boost

19MB total cache (3MB L2 + 16MB L3)

65W TDP, AM4 socket, DDR4-3200 dual channel

Wraith Stealth cooler included

Unlocked multiplier

Zen 3 cores where it counts

The 5500 moves to AMD's Zen 3 architecture, and the jump over the 4500 is bigger than the price gap suggests: 16MB of L3 instead of 8MB, higher instructions per clock, and a 100MHz higher boost. Games that stutter on a small cache — open-world titles, anything with a lot of streaming — behave noticeably better. It still ships with a cooler and still runs at 65W, so it slots into exactly the same cheap build without changing anything else.

Read the fine print on PCIe

The one thing to know: the 5500 is PCIe 3.0, not 4.0, unlike the Ryzen 5 5600 above it. With most graphics cards that costs you very little, but a PCIe 4.0 SSD will run at half speed and an entry card with a narrow x8 interface can lose a few frames. There's also no integrated graphics. If you plan to run fast NVMe storage, step up to the 5600. For a straightforward gaming box on a budget, the 5500 is excellent value.

FEATURES:

Zen 3 architecture with 16MB L3 cache

Wraith Stealth cooler included in the box

Unlocked for overclocking on B450/B550/X570

65W TDP — quiet, cool, cheap to power

Supports up to 128GB of DDR4-3200

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: AMD Ryzen 5 5500 (100-100000457BOX)

Cores / Threads: 6 / 12

Base Clock: 3.6 GHz

Max Boost Clock: Up to 4.2 GHz

L2 Cache: 3 MB

L3 Cache: 16 MB

Integrated Graphics: None — discrete graphics card required

Default TDP: 65 W

Socket: AM4

Process Node: TSMC 7nm FinFET

Memory: DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s, dual channel, up to 128 GB

PCI Express: PCIe 3.0 (24 lanes total, 20 usable)

Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes

Bundled Cooler: AMD Wraith Stealth

Warranty: 3 Year

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

AMD Ryzen 5 5500 processor

AMD Wraith Stealth cooler

Documentation and case badge

Why AMD?

Zen 3 is the architecture that put AMD ahead in gaming, and the 5500 is the cheapest way onto it.
