In a school context that is genuinely useful rather than a gimmick - a learner can type notes in one lesson and annotate a worksheet with a stylus in the next. The 12" 3:2-ish panel gives more vertical space than a widescreen 11.6" for reading documents.

Where it sits against the 311

R2 200 more than the Chromebook 311, for the touchscreen, the convertible hinge and the larger screen. Same 4GB and 32GB underneath, so the performance ceiling is the same: this is a web and Google Workspace machine. If the touch and pen are not needed, the 311 does the same computing for less. If you want more headroom, the 8GB / 64GB Spin 512 in this collection at R9 999 is the better long-term buy.

FEATURES:

12" touchscreen with 360-degree convertible hinge

Touch and pen supportive

ChromeOS with automatic updates and fast boot

Fanless, quiet operation

3 year Acer warranty

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Acer Chromebook Spin 512 (R856T-TCO-C1GM / NX.KE3EA.001)

Memory: 4GB

Storage: 32GB

Display: 12" touchscreen

Operating system: ChromeOS

Warranty: 3 years

WHAT'S IN THE BOX:

Acer Chromebook Spin 512

Power adapter

Documentation

Why Acer?

The Spin 512 is built to an education specification rather than a consumer one, which is why it has a three-year warranty and a chassis designed for daily abuse.
